Andy Tennant is a British track and road cyclist and a member of the team pursuit aiming to win a medal at the Olympic Games in London 2012. In 2010 he won his first senior track medals at the World and European Championships and is hoping to continue this rich vein of form in 2011/12. On the road Andy races for the UK based team Rapha-Condor-Sharp who compete in both national and international road races.

Andy began his climb to the top in 2005 by winning the World Junior Championships however he found the transition from the junior to the senior ranks tough and nearly quit cycling in 2008 due to poor form and ill health. In 2009 he was given the opportunity to ride professionally in Britain for the first time and hasn’t looked back, winning numerous road titles and becoming a key member of the team pursuit in the lead up to the Olympic Games in 2012.

A remarkable fact about Andy is that he suffered from a heart condition when he was younger that prevented him from taking part in physical activity. He is very grateful to the British Heart Foundation and Birmingham Children’s Hospital and continues to undertake charitable work for both in his spare time.

Away from cycling Andy completed his education before entering the British Cycling Academy in 2005. He is a keen cook and coffee enthusiast from his years spent living in Italy. He is also a talented IT expert and records and produces short video blogs covering his cycling career both on the road and track as well as being very active on social media sites.

Andy is a realistic medal prospect for London 2012 and a key member of the team pursuit. He is a well-spoken, funny and articulate individual who has undertaken a variety of commercial appearances from school appearances to after dinner speaking. His ability to communicate using a mixture of videos and photos ensures that he’s always a different and popular choice for many brands and events and his stories on how he’s battled adversity at different stages in his career in order to reach the top is truly inspiring.
